Need a Playoff In College Football, Recap – Nov. 15th
Posted by Cody Manmiller on November 16, 2008
All College Football fans are screaming playoff, and their screaming is getting louder. As Alabama and Texas Tech sit atop the BCS Rankings as 2 unbeaten teams, Florida and Texas make statements. Florida, who lost very early in the season to Mississippi, has beaten the last 6 teams they played by at least 28 points. Many
people think that they are the best team in the country and can beat anyone on anyday. Unfortunately, if the season ended today, they wouldn’t be in the National Championship Game. The BCS (Bowl Championship Series) elects the #1 and #2 teams in the rankings to the title game.
‘Bama escaped a blow when they were down 7-5 to Mississippi State on Saturday, a team they lost to the last 2 seasons. Texas Tech, the other undefeated, was Idle and didn’t play.
Florida and Texas, who are two teams sitting just out of the all-important top 2 seeds, need some help. Well at least Texas does, Texas needs either Alabama or Texas Tech to lose one of their remaining games, plus the Longhorns need to win-out. Even that might not put them in the title game. Now for Florida, they have to win-out, including beat ‘Bama in the SEC Championship Game to put them in the top 2.
Many teams are sitting just outside of the top 2 with only 1 loss and that is why everybody wants a play-off in College Football, (there are play-offs in all divisions of CFB except for Division 1) even President-elect Barack Obama for that matter. When the two teams are announced for the title game, many teams will be angry and rightfully so, the best team should win the Championship. In many people’s opinions, ‘Bama and Texas Tech are not the best teams in the country. If there was a BCS in the MLB, it would have been the Cubs in the World Series and you see how that panned out.
The screams get louder and louder…
